I drive that road every 2 weeks. 2862' sounds about right.
Not trying to correct anyone but I was told that it is Old Fort but everyone calls it Black Mountain. NCHauler may know more about that.
Last week saw a semi trailer in one of the runaway ramps. That trailer was destroyed from going over those sand humps.
Those are baby mountains compared to the western USA.
Having been out west in my younger days, you are certainly correct about that which is why I chose a diesel. Hope to be back out there in a couple of years.
