Black Tank Deodorant

What is the best & longest brand? Dry camping for 10 days - did the same last year & when we finally were able to empty our tanks, it was very odoriferous!

. . . flushing with plenty of water is key to reducing odor.

True, but this isn't an option for the OP who is boondocking.

Yes, sorry, I overlooked that small detail :S.
  • It seems on the OP, that the stuff coming out of the black tank was odiferious when it was being dumped.

So what is the issue ?

I try to stay upwind and breath lightly when the poo poo is dumped.

As far as the length of time between dumps, we have gone between 3 and 4 weeks by using the head sparingly.
  • This is the best I have used. Keeps odors to a minimum. Nothing will eliminate black tank odor.

  • Here's another vote for RV Digest-It.. I have been using this since last season and it really does do what they say it does. You can buy it on Amazon and you can read the reviews from users there. I am so glad I discovered this stuff.

  • There are as many answers as there are posters on this site :)

We use Aqua-Kem Toss Ins. Before we leave I cut open the packet and dissolve it into a bucket of water. For long trips I use two packets.
  • Dometic Full Time Holding Tank Treatment. Works the best we've found. We are full timers but I wish we had know about it when we were not full timing. Sometimes difficult to find but Camping World usually carries it.
  • We use a product manufactured by Camco, "TST" that does not use formaldahide and has a nice orange smell, Walmart sells it so it is rather easy to find and works even out in 115 degree heat, I use two of the drop in poughes when the weather is hot.

  • I started off using just dawn and now I use dawn and pine-Sol. Most of the smell is gone or better then just using dawn.
  • Also use Pine Sol with 5 RVs, has worked fine. Buy the Gallon bottles at the the Warehouse Club.

I'm sure you will get many suggestions, but I like Odorless RV holding tank treatment. Used it for years without any problems.

    Good Luck

i think you mean Odorlos! if so, totally agree on it and CW is now carrying it, in various packaging.
