- Crazy_RayExplorerWhat STUFF are you talking about from Wal-Mart?? Name will help. JMO
- Mr__CamperExplorerWe've always used the small packets every time we dump. We use a regular cleaner and deodorizer to drop into the grey water tank. I've never heard of a "home brew" for the black water tank.
- TheSidwellsExplorerWe use Camco RV toilet Treatment without issue. Just drop it in a half full toilet of water and your good to go..
- mboppExplorerYou can try one of the commercial additives, or Google "Geo Method."
- hawkeye-08Explorer IIIWe switched to Geo method (google it) and no odors, indicators work, wife is happy.
- the_bear_IIExplorerI've always used the Thetford deodorizer with waste digester bugs
Works great no unpleasant smells and keeps the tank cleared of clumps. - GaryWTExplorerWe use the aqua Chem from Walmart, cheap enough and we are happy with it. There are hundreds of products and methods and many are happy with which ever works for them.
- DutchmenSportExplorerI've used Thetford and Aqua Chem over the years. As far as odor, both do OK.
I clean my tanks pretty well at the end of each trip. I flush water until nothing brown comes out. Then we primarily use nothing, except dish washing water when we do dishes, we flush it down the potty. Haven't had odors in a long time.
But a couple weeks ago we purchased a new box of Thetford with the little digestable bags for a "just in case" moment. We did drop one in the tank on our way home last week-end with a couple gallons of water to slosh around. No odors, just felt it would help since it would be a couple more weeks before going out again and it's REALLY hot now, and any little bit of (anything) in the black tank can begin to smell real bad in a short time in this heat. No problem when continuously using the camper and dumping regularly, But when sitting, we like to keep a deodorizer in there.
Works for us. They all do a pretty good job of keeping odors down. Pick the one that strikes your attention and just try it. If it don't work to your satisfaction, try something different next time.
You'll eventually switch over to dishwashing liquid too. - STANG23LExplorerThe same chemicals are used in the portable toilet industry. We've used both liquid and packet versions in the family biz. Settled on packets as they are much less of a mess! And you do not need much water for the casing to dissolve. Just make sure you have a couple gallons of water in the tank.
As far as smell they have all seemed to do a pretty good job. - scbwrExplorer III'm a Happy Campers fan. No harsh chemicals and it works!
