They must say that in the instructions for liability reasons. Yes, you would have to be very careful if you close the tank valve. I do it and find a number of brown trout swimming downstream when the valve is re-opened.
After a complete flush and seeing nothing but clear water, I add a few gallons. When I get home, I dump into my own station and the water is completely brown. You never get it completely clean.
