Blue Ox brake system 2015 GMC terrain

Purchased a Blue Ox portable brake syatem fro Hitch Source. The unit requires a 12volt power source. When discussing the purchase with the a person at Hitch Source he said the the 2015 Terrain had no listed limits other than the removal of a fuse.

Purchased the unit, ran a charge wire to the car battery since the sales person explained that the internal battery on the Blue Ox unit had little reserve an was a last resort type of thing in case the car battery ran down. Fair enough. No other problems I was told.
First test hook up I found that with the fuse bypassed and the key in the acc (recommended position) position there is no power to the 12v plugs that might power the brake unit.
Called Hitch source tech help "let me call you back" waited three days and called again. tec guy said that there is no way they can know all the ways that various car are set up and you'll need to run a plug direct from the battery.
Brand new car first response from dealer is not sure that won't effect warantee. need to get power through fire wall on and on.
Right now the unit is a $999.00 paper weight. Anyone towing a terrain witha blue ox brake system.? Am I missing somthing? I guess I could connect the charge line direct to a 12v plug but my idea was to make a clean hook up.
Thanks any info

  • Many thanks Sir. My set up is the same. I did not find the third plug listed but it probably is. Never expected to find an always live plug in the trunk but there it is.
Thank for taking the time to respond. Problem solved.
  • I have three 12 volt plug ins in my Cadillac but only the rear hatch one has power with the ignition off. I bought an extension wire for 12 volt and hook into that for my braking unit. Either that or run one direct from battery to under dash near driver side for hookups.
