If someone wanted to smuggle drugs across the border, hiding them in an RV would be a good place. Maybe it was due to the incident in the east, except that all the commercial trucks were sailing right through? Not sure why once RVs were cleared, they made them wait. And wait, and wait... Being a long weekend, the wait could have been waaay longer later in the day!
The gas tank was running on fumes because I had planned to zip across and fill up on cheap US gas. I kept shutting down as I moved along and am lucky I didn't run dry.
Interestingly, when you go into Canada, I've never once seen an RV pulled over and searched. Maybe partly because there's just no space at the Pac Hwy crossing to do it.
The border CBP dudes can be mean and nasty but seems more like a facade than anything to scare folks. Some of them are quite pleasant on occasion though. The good news is that once you're across the border, the US is a great place and you can put your negative crossing experience behind you.
They seem to have a "flavor of the week" policy at the border. Sometimes they're into fruit, next time it can be meat, or firewood, or dog vaccinations, pet food, etc. You never know. If you have Nexus, you cannot take clothing into the US for a spouse if not with you at the time and if they ever interrogate, I've just gotten into cross-dressing as a hobby. :)
