Those dealers can be gutsy! It is amazing how quickly they fold when they finally figure out that you know what you, and what they are doing! Some of the sharks would rather let a somewhat profitable sale walk in the hopes that a more profitable buyer will come along. This time of year however, qualified buyers are getting harder to come by and it will get harder as we go into winter.
They figure that they will throw out a huge price and maybe someone will come along and buy it at that price. I guess it happens often enough for some of them to rely on it. I use the same philosophy in reverse when negotiating with them. If they don't get to my number, I walk. Usually they will call me to come back before I get home. Especially if I "let it slip" that I am on my way to a competitor to look at a similar unit. Have confidence in your knowledge. They will try every trick in the book to shake your confidence. It rather unnerves them when it doesn't work.
