Boy!! That was close.

I really want to vent. Went out to look at used RVs and we went to this one dealer and honest to goodness I felt like we were being played like a fiddle. It was like one minute, I'm asking the price and the next, I'm being asked to sign on the dotted line. When I told the finance guy, I wasn't ready to buy, he calls in the manager and they are like ganging up on me, to the point that I started to have like a panic attack. He was trying to make me feel guilty for wasting his time. I kept saying I wanted to think it over. I mean how many people spend that kind of money without thinking on it for a couple of days at least.
I finally got up and just went and sat in the car and let my husband deal with it. They needed my signature and they weren't getting it from me.
So when I get home, I check out RVTrader and they have the same RV for 12,000 less, 3 of them, and they looked to be in better condition. Also they wanted me to pay $6800 for a maintenance agreement which sounds absorbent, and they don't want to give me anything for my RV which is in perfect condition.
This morning the salesman calls with a "better deal" that just makes me madder. They could give me the RV now and I wouldn't take it

1) Has anyone bought on-line? What is it like
2) They said a Maintenance contract would be $7000. So what does that cover? and is it worth it. Seems to me I could replace and engine and transmission for 7000.
Thanks for letting me vent.

  • If any entity, be they dealer or private, won't give you whatever time it takes (a day, a week, whatever) to make an informed and considered decision, RUN, do not walk away.

Even given that it might be you, if YOU feel pressured in any way, again, follow the above advice. There are thousands of no pressure, no hype decent deals out there.
  • Tell you what... send me $7000 for a maintenance contract and I promise to fly to wherever the rig is located and fix whatever is broken for as long as you own the rv. Fine print - not valid in the pacific northwest, only covers items that have received daily documented factory maitenance, we only work on days ending in "i", not valid for recreational vehicles or trailers, void once payment clears. Oh by the way my uncle is the king of Nabibia. Just pm your account info and we will get you signed up.

Real fine print - the above is sarcasm. Run from that dealer!
  • There are Dealerships and Stealerships, sounds like you hit the later.

    1) Some friends did, with great results. The (ebay) dealer in CA told them to fly down, if the rig wasn't what he said it was he would pay their round-trip air-fare. If it was they would buy it.
    2) These are a huge profit center for dealerships, often 50% profit. Personally I would never get one.

If this was the Seattle metro area, I can just about bet who the dealer was, they are (and have been) infamous for this type of "deal"
