Brake problems

This is a strange one but I need help. I have a 2005 Raptor toy hauler and I am pulling it with a 2014 dodge dually diesel. The information center on the dash keeps beeping when pulling the trailer and says check trailer brake wiring or trailer disconnected. It comes and goes so you never know when your going to have brakes and my trailer is about 14000 lbs so brakes are important. I got with a friend of mine today and he has same trailer but a 2008. These are fifth wheel trailers. He has an older ford truck with an after market brake controller and I have the built it controller. We hooked his truck to my trailer and pulled it with no problems. Then we hooked my truck to his trailer and pulled it with no problems. Then we hooked my trailer back to my truck and went about 1 mile and the dash information beeped and said brakes disconnected. When it says that the lights and turn signals in the trailer work. I know this is long but I am looking for any help I can get. Thank you for reading.

    The factory controllers have had known issues in all brands. Contact your dealer to see if they have an update available

    Just took it to them and they said they downloaded 2 updates but no help.

    CHeck the plug and make sure all the "pins ?" are tight when plugged in and check the ground as it may be grounding thru the 5th wheel. You can hook a jumper (jumper cables would work) from the truck to the trailer and take it out for a drive.

    We put 2 big jumper wires because we thought that because I had bed liner sprayed before my fifth wheel hitch was put in. It did not help.

    Hopefully you find the problem before wrecking the tpms. 2006+ Dodge trucks are not forgiving with trailer electrical problems.

    If you can plug your trailer in to your bumper 7 pin and see if it work or you have the same problem.
    Open the trailer plug and see if water has gotten in.
    Make sure that all the truck wire harness connector are sealed.
    Trailers has a junction box or place that the brake wires connect s to the 7 pin harness.
    Some manufacturers use wire nuts to make this connection.( can be loss)
    The ground on the trailer can cause this problem as well.

    Thanks guys for all the help. I have tried hooking up to both connections in the bed and at the bumper. I replaced the cord with a seals plug from the junction box on the fifth wheel to th truck. The only thing I can think of left is a ground. It has to be some type of ground on the brake system and not the lights because I never loose the lights just the brakes. If I just knew where that growing was.

    Is the brake controller set to heavy electric? That OEM controller has at least 4 settings: light electric, heavy electric, light hydraulic and heavy hydraulic. I know it's a silly question, but just had to ask.

    I would think about replacing the plug on the RV. I assume it is molded onto the cord? They are cheap and do go bad.

    I will bet your trucks controller is fine.
