Early on, in my RV travels, I towed for a while without aux. brakes. I then read a post here about a scenario of sitting in a courtroom witness chair answering an opposing lawyer (representing Grandpa Smith's family-he was killed in the accident) on why I did not install and use a supplemental braking system before I hit him..............
After installing brakes, I realized how much shorter my stopping distance is. It may avoid an accident when one of the geniuses out there cuts me off in my RV off with their car. There has been more than once when I felt I would have had a serious accident if I took even inches more to stop.
Liability and personal safety concerns have me now never towing without supplemental brakes. It seems to be a small cost for a significant extra safety edge. Some tow without an aux. brake but not me.
