Well, It appears my trailer was broken in to at the storage yard over the holiday weekend. Went by yesterday to drop something off and saw the door frame had been pried. Went inside and observed some cabinet doors open and the window to the curb side slide had been opened. It appears a smallish person slipped through a fairly narrow gap by the closed slide and went inside to open the window so a larger person could climb inside. I opened the slide and looked around. No damage, nothing missing, nothing trashed. I had luckily taken the televisions out after our last trip before storing it. We are very fortunate that they were just after something quick and didn't feel like destroying.Walked around a few other trailers near me and probably 20 had been hit. I of course go report it to management and they already knew, had already called the police, and were in the process of going down the list calling camper owners, just hadn't got to me yet. Said they will be going through the video so we'll see. It's frustrating that you buy nice things and try to do right and some scum bag comes along and tries to take it. Heck, I'm a cop and take these reports quite often. At least now I'm sure I'll be a bit more sympathetic on my next call. Anyway, just thought I'd put this out there. It can happen anytime anywhere. Just wish I had the room at my house to store it. Totally landlocked though.I'll say it again, we got off easy. Only damage was to the bent door trim and I bent it back and it works just fine. Door frame itself has zero damage and locks, what little good they are, secure fine.

Sorry to hear it. We had to store our TT for about 6 months (few years ago) in a lot while our road was redone. I worried all the time about it...but it was never bothered.Glad the fix will be quick and you'll be on the road.Stay safe while on duty!

That's why I'm glad I can keep our Southwind in the yard.But, as you know, it's not a guarantee it can't happen to me.Fortunately your damage was relatively minor. Thanks for the reminder to remove valuables when the RV is in storage.

Kind of funny. I get there, notice the break in. Call my wife, she's with a friend of hers. I'm a patrol officer, my wife is a crime scene officer and her best friend is a major case detective. We were definitely covered with handling the break in. hehe.. Of course not our jurisdiction and the other police had already been and gone. But heck, we still did some investigating.

Sorry to hear of the break-in, but glad the damage was minor.Sadly, there are scumbags around. Hope the security cameras got some good shots and they catch the varmints.

Glad you had no more damage than you did and fix was quick and easy. Yes, after you experience a personal event, it always makes you a bit more sympathetic to someone else going through the same thing. Until that moment, words are just words, even though we all try our best to empathize. But once something happens to you can you truly identify with others.Every time I read a post about storage lot break ins, I'm actually glad the zoning board where I lived left the "nasty" note on my door telling me I had to move the camper, which resulted in us moving to a different county completely, to a location in the country, were we have privacy, dark nights, dog can run free without fences are leashes, and can fire a 20 gauge out my bedroom window if I feel like it! Never had any kind of break-in living here, but when we lived in town, seems someone was always fiddling with the camper in our yard. Things would get moved, unplugged, disturbed, and sometimes, evidence someone was inside it. So our lemons became lemonade and the zoning board actually did us a favor when we decided to move out of town and life has been great ever since. And it really is nice to wake up in the morning and right outside my bedroom window, there sits my camper!You say you are land-locked. Sometimes you just have to make drastic life-changing "moves" to improve your lifestyle or to bring a sense of peace to your world. We moved almost 30 miles from that original location. It trippled my drive time and distance to work. Was it worth it? Absolutely yes!

Same when you drop your RV off at a dealer for repair or service work. Are they saying they get broken into often or what? Very confidence inspiring. :E

The master key only opens the handle lock, not the dead bolt lock. For the dead bolt there are about 60 ± different keys.

I parked my RV in my front yard once so my 12 year old daughter and her friend could spend the night in it. A neighbor came knocking on my door at around midnight to tell us that he had seen a guy trying to break in and had chased him off. It's probably a good thing for him that he never got the door open, because my daughter had insisted on keeping our wolf/Shepherd mix with her that night. Buster was VERY protective. My daughter and her friend never heard anything.

Hehe. I wrote a statement for the investigation on this and I noticed the same thing. Looked like I was the one taking the report for myself. Writing the same way for over 20 years kinda gets automatic.

Oh by the way, we discovered they got some DVD's as well. Took my Long Long Trailer. So long Lucy.

Funny, I knew you were a cop when I read the "I observed" sentence at the beginning of the post. I'm glad you're a cop, and all your brothers in blue as well. We need you more and more each day it seems.
Glad you got off light. Never lock the dead bolt in storage, that's where the major damage to the door frame comes from.

I'm sorry that this happen to you. Your decision to remove the TV's and other valuables from the RV was a good one. It may have been best to just leave the door unlocked. Less damage to the RV then.

Years ago several low lives broke into the TT we had then as well as a couple others in the fenced storage lot. They destroyed my door and killed a perfectly innocent 12 year old bottle of scotch. Fortunately they were too drunk to do much more damage. They stole an old electric razor and a remote for an old TV but left the TV. I can't understand the mentality that someone wants something you have worked hard for, and just takes it. Makes me a believer in street justice.
