First off these are not your kids so you can't tell them what to do. Their mother has to be the one on-board with the no-tech policy before you can expect them to comply. So she is the one you have to deal with.
So how does your GF feel about it? It sounds like the 2 of you might not have compatible thoughts on the subject. Resolve it between the 2 of you, and then let her deal with the kids.
First of all, I don't appreciate the attack. This post is about what everyone else thinks about kids and tech while camping, not what everyone else thinks about MY situation.
Second, no they aren't my kids, but it is MY camper and I have some say in what goes on in MY camper and how people act around ME..especially if I am the one that is inviting them to come and doing the driving and paying for their room and board. And when did I ever say I am the one telling the kids what to do anyways? I don't think I ever said that. Please don't assume.
Third, if you read through the posts you would have realized that Mom is on board with me, but doesn't enforce as much. But that isn't what this whole post is about anyways.
I am more of a father to them than their own dead beat father is. I sure hope I have some input in what goes on if I am raising them like my own.
No attack intended. My apologies for coming across that way.
Since you have already made plans for a location without wi-fi, etc, I wouldn't change them for the teenager coming along. Just tell her beforehand. No one likes a surprise.
I don't think strict rules are the best way to approach this. A discussion about how this is intended to be family time with activities you can't do at home, and how you would like to spend time with minimal electronic distractions and focusing on being together, is possibly a good way. Many teens really DO like good family time. We've all just allowed a lot of bad habits to get in the way.
