Yup, that was actually my point as those braces are not going to prevent a failure... might prolong it some but not prevent.

I seen a fellow one day and his bike rack on the back of his TT broke and he was dragging his bikes on the road behind him with a trail of sparks. I stepped on it and got up beside him and pointed back to try and alert him and he gave me the one finger salute and sped up and pulled away. I turned off the road a little ways up so I never seen the result of his carnage.

I also had a neighbor who put one of those carrier things on the back of his fifth wheel and loaded it right up. But then he didn't have a spot for his spare so he mounted it to his rv ladder. It was an 8 hole wheel with tire. Then he wondered why it pulled the ladder off and cursed his crappy built trailer.

This. Last month DW and I were headed home from Bodega Bay on Lakeview Highway, which is a busy two lane shortcut to Petaluma from Hwy 37. I was driving our 35' A following a guy in a run down C that has seen better days. On his bumper he had one of those hitch platforms attached with a ton of drift wood bungy cord strapped to the platform. I kept my distance, and sure enough, he lost a couple of the logs which stopped in the middle of the lane. I was able to stop, waited for a while for oncoming traffic to clear, and was able to get around the logs. Once I got on 37, there is a large pull out which stopped at to just check my toad and inside of the coach from the sudden stop. He had also stopped in that pull out as he realized he lost his stupid drift logs. I really wanted to say something, but just went about my business. You can't fix stupid, be careful out there.

then you'd be shocked at how many that frequent various RV forums, plan on using this thing for hauling bikes and stuff.

Many people think a bumper is.. Well, a Bumper.. Most Travel Traliers, be they TT's or 5Ers do not have rear bumpers.. They have a sewer hose storage container.

A Bumper... Is designed to Bump with.. It can take and absorb a fairly decent impact... A hose container is very thin, metal, and a your average tree rodent (Squirrel) can hit it hard enough to dent it. The load carryig capacity is somewhere around 10-20 pounds.. (The tray that held that generator) expecting it to hold anything at all, other than the sewer hose, is asking a lot of it.

Well they aren't rated very high 200#, about the weight of a couple bikes and a decent generator, I would not trust with that much weight!
