Burr Handy Lift

We have one on our trailer and it helps my wife as she to has a big problem with stairs. The only problem we have had with it is it is kind of slow as it uses the same principal as an electric hitch jack with a longer stroke. We also have a power lift running board on our truck to help her.

Arizal, thank you for your reply. A couple of questions if you do not mind: How does your wife keep herself stable while the lift is moving up or down? Did you use anything but the plates that came with it to mount it to the trailer firmly?

I have had one installed on our class a for three years and am satisfied with it
Some comment below

The travel is limited to the distance between ground and the bottom of the door

You will need an additional isolation switch to shut the stairs in the retract position

I had a RV dealer install the unit to attach to the integral frame. Burr will tell you how many man hours should be charged.

The motor got wet once in a south Louisiana downpour and had to be rewound. Several weeks ago the switches in the top head got wet in another rain storm and took three days of west Texas dry to operate again.....keep it dry

Lastly, if the motor does poop out, it has an easy access port to operate with a portable drill and socket

A last thought, it hangs off the passenger side, inside the mirror projection,but far enough out to hit the traffic safety cones so prevalent in the national great out doors now. Not good to hit them because they bounce erratically and can leave marks on the side of the RV.

She can hold on to the square vertical tube for support while moving up and down. I had it installed by our RV dealer who welded the base to the trailer frame and used 1/4 inch steel plates on the inside wall of the trailer that match the mounting bolt pattern. We live in a dry climate and have not had any problems with it.

Talked to my mechanic today and he thinks that the job is doable but wants me to bring the trailer buy to look at the location on the trailer where the bolts and backing plates would be installed.

Arizal, couple of questions from my mechanic If you do not mind. Are the studs in your walls wood or aluminum? You mentioned that your mechanic welded the base to the frame. Looking at a blow up of the parts not sure you meant by the base?

The studs and framing are aluminum. The trailer is parked at my sons house about 5 miles from here. I will take some pictures of the install when I am over there in the next few days and send them to you via private message.
