Buying out of state, registration and taxes?

I'm in AZ and looking at buying in NV. Dealer said I would pay taxes in AZ when I register it and not in NV. Can anyone elaborate on this thats familiar with AZ or NV RV taxes and registration?
  • We purchased our Motorhome in NJ while we lived in GA. The salesman told us if we paid cash, they wouldn't charge us sales tax because GA would charge us the sales tax when we went to register it.

Since we financed it, they charged us GA sales tax and then gave us a check in the amount of the sales tax to pay GA sales tax when we registered it.

  • While states are different it seldom amounts to double taxation as has been mentioned but maybe the difference paid in the second state, but the tax total would normally be the same…

I paid sales tax in FL so wasn’t taxed in PA that had the same sales tax rates at the time…

Now if paying tax in one state and going to a state with a lower tax rate getting the refunded amount may be more difficult… call both DMV’s not just the one…

Aren't you glad you asked on an internet forum?..:R

There may be (only) 50 states, but depending on where the buyer..
    purchased,
    took delivery,
    and resides - -
there could be about 150 (or more) "how to" replies.

Follow JJ's advice and talk to both DMVs - then double check your info, as DMVs have been known to be wrong!.:S

Of course.... you could just follow whatever advice you like from an internet forum..:C

If the poster is incorrect, maybe he/she will help you pay any additional taxes due..:B ..:B

  • Got my new RV registered to day at AZ DMV. I did not pay any taxes in NV where I bought the RV. At AZ DMV I was charged 5.6% tax which is AZ's tax rate. I was not charged city or county taxes. If I had bought the RV in AZ I would have paid about 9.5% total in taxes, at least in the metro Phoenix area.
