Having camped in California for 30 years now, we gave up camping in the summer and weekends 20 years ago.
We only went spring and fall and weekdays.
If you want to camp in the summer, you need to get a team of family/friends on different computers and hit it the second the sites become available.
The state beaches are completely booked in seconds, for summer months.
The reality is that there too many people vying for too few campsites, in California.
