I don't think the OP was being unreasonable, or rude. All of the campgrounds we frequent have a couple of hosts on duty, and will they are not always at their site, there is always someone around. Off and on all day.
Lot's of parks are getting picky about their wood, and that is fine with me. We went to a TN state park last weekend, and I recieved 2 emails reminding not to bring external wood, unless it was certified heat treated.
