We have camped in the host site in parks that are not officially open with all the services. We registered for the site and only found out it was a host site when we got there. Maybe you should have called and asked someone about the wood before you left home? Maybe some arrangements could have been made. Have you checked with the local town? They might have an answer for you to put your mind at ease.
