Camper burgularized in driveway !!

On local news tonight: family was in process of packing up their 5th wheel for a vacation and it was parked in their driveway. (sound familiar?) Next morning they noticed camper door wide open. Owners neglected to lock it up (they admit it was their bad!) and about $1200 worth of valuables were taken. They knew their neighbor had a security camera so they checked it and it revealed 6 young folks came with backpacks and flashlights, in and out in about 10 minutes, checked the cars across the street, then jumped in a get-away car and left. The tape is too fuzzy to correctly identify anyone. Nice quiet neighborhood too. Just a heads up, people !

  • I do not think that it will be a big issue in the country. A stranger stands out and 911 is a long time away.
  • It's better to live in the ghetto as they leave there and go to your neighborhood to steal. In the ghetto you can leave everything unlocked and might even wake to more than you had the day before.
  • These gangs will headquarter, if that is the word in places like Atlanta. They now have Google view and others to plan their raids. They go out as far as a hundred miles or more or less and using the "intelligence" they have gathered drive through neighborhoods looking for likely targets, which include those which they have information, are gone on vacation etc. As the number, of gangs and drug cartel, grows from Illegals swarming across our border it will get worse. Nice neighborhoods of all economic strata will be where the bounty is. This is why, in Brazil the wealthy wall themselves off from the rest of the population and the reason South Florida we see the same thing but to a lesser degree. This is why our Police stop suspicious traffic, to them, in neighborhoods. They have to make some judgement calls yet they still only deter a fraction. It was always said the same 2% did 98%, of the crimes but the 2% is growing but not by 2% but a higher number.
Isolated, however relative, homes, in the country, are more at risk too. Probably more so.
  • Well OP, I see you are from xxx. I've heard the crime rate there is pretty high...

Well, of course. That's where all the good stuff is. If I were a criminal, I wouldn't waste my time ripping off things from the ghetto either.
  • Looks like by leaving it unlocked they saved themselves the expense of fixing a damaged door.

Showing up with backpacks and flashlights the creeps were on a mission to break into this trailer whether or not it was locked.
  • Never forget that ANY RV is a billboard saying "Inside this box is everything to make your travels convenient, including lots of electronics, food, beverages, clothing, probably cash, etc". Even locking them isn't really all that secure - just keeps the honest thieves out.
  • I parked my toy hauler in front of my house earlier this year for the first trip of the season. Woke up in the morning and it was covered with eggs!!
