If you want to see a society that is well ordered and trash is maintained correctly, visit Switzerland. I knew things were different when we disembarked from the train into a station that was built out of stainless steel but seeing how the locals handled recycling and trash was an eye-opener.
One day, while walking through the small town, at a forked road intersection, a little blue truck stopped ahead of me. A worker got out, opened the tailgate of the truck, grabbed a dustpan and broom, and swept up the pebbles and loose sand at the curb.
I'm sure the larger cities in SWitzerland may have garbage issues but it was refreshing to spend a week where there wasn't a food wrapper, a cardboard cup, or anything else on the ground where people were present.
