If you don't like rules then don't go to a top campground in this country - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan. It's gotten many awards. The campground, restrooms and showers are spotless. The rules are enforced.
When you check in you are given a BIG list of rules and the ones most disregarded by campers are read to you out loud. You will have no reason to say "I didn't know that" when the ranger comes by.
Amazingly, folks go to that campground because of the rules and that they're enforced. There is rarely an open spot there.
We volunteered there for eight seasons and listened to the visitor comments. They loved it.
