Camping alone

I have no problem going camping for 1-2 nights to relive stresses; even 3 nights with friends. Even long distance motorcycle trips are planned 2 - 3 weeks.

But I spent four months in a 28 ft. travel trailer (14 ft. slide) while one house was being sold and the other being built. I thought it wouldn’t be bad and had previously considered full- timing.

Those 4 months were from October to February through a north Idaho winter; low temp was -15 F. Maybe it was missing Christmas and New Year’s or the low temp. and winds that kept me inside but I got cabin fever!!!!

Wouldn’t do it again.

Is the issue about camping alone, being alone, or being separated?

My wife never liked being separated, so for my long TDY's, work trips, field projects, she either went to live with family, arranged to come along for at least part of the project, or visited. My biggest fear was that she would outlive me, I'd leave her alone. Didn't happen, I outlived her. So you need to understand how your wife feels about this, and decide whether you want to respect that.

Being alone yourself, only you know. I'm learning to live alone, have siblings that have always lived alone, but I visit my daughters, grandchildren, sisters, my wife's sister frequently, even if some of the trips are 2000-3000 miles.

I've tried camping alone (RVing actually) and so far it is not working so well, because it is something we alwats did together. Alone at home is easier, as I always have projects to stay busy. Camping alone has been more like solitude with enforced idleness. If you have a particular activity that kees you busy, that could be different, but just moving my house (RV) out to a campground and sitting thunking about the projects I ned to be doing at home, that has not worked.

Travel alone, that's a bit different, because I'm either with a group (even if they are strangers at the beginning) or it is a road trip and I'm busy driving.

I go out, by myself, for a month. DW and I usually travel together, but she has some volunteer activities she doesn't want to give up. So, I'll go to a national park and camp for several weeks. I don't mind, she doesn't mind. Three months, I would mind -- too long.

At least once a year a man will drop over to talk to us as we sit by the fire. His wife cannot leave the grandchildren or does not like to camp. So we know that men do it. My sister in law will seldom come camping as her children might need her as a baby sitter.
I always go with my husband. And not because I do not trust him to go alone.

My wife enjoys the RV, but not for long stretches. So there are times I'm camping alone. Last summer I CG Hosted for the NPS in Sequoia NP. Wife came u to join me for about a week. It worked out well. Will probably do it again soon.

I rarely go on a trip without my wife except business. I wouldn't even consider being away from my soul mate voluntarily but everyone is different.

I WAS married, which ended 3 years ago. I have lived alone since....Full time in an RV. I was single until my late twenties, and am now single again in my late fiftys... I guess I am re living my 20's.. So far I love every minute of it :)

It's all in what a couple want to do. Has nothing to do with what is right or wrong. Not sure the purpose of this post really. Why are YOU worried, or even have an opinion on what is "ok" for another couple to do?

I am retired military, and fortunately was only away for one short tour, other than a couple of short deployments here and there. I personally do not go RVing without my wife, because we both enjoy it, and we enjoy each others company. I have been known to go hunting by myself, and she makes trips to see her family time to time. She does an annual vacation with her sisters. I don't have a problem with it.

OP admittedly, I got sucked into your vortex, but I don't even really understand why you felt the need to even make this comment or observation.

I RV by myself all the time. I go where I want, when I want, and stay as long as I want. That's due to the fact that I never married. OTOH, I rarely argue with myself, but if I do, I always win the argument.
