I have a story about camping alone on a Mexican Beach.
Driving out to a very nice public beach near Loreto, in Baja California Sur I happened upon a fence just behind the beach. At a gate there was a sign that read in English one could camp inside the fence if you got a key from a named person in town. Reading the sign I wondered if I should get a key and camp behind the fence. But the beach was very nice and I wanted to be on the water side of the fence. So I was wondering about safety as I set up camp.
Later sitting outside enjoying the sunset I saw a guy walking down the beach toward me. He was using a large walking stick. I looked about for a rock if I needed to defend myself. But as soon as I could see his face I could tell he presented no danger to me. He kept walking as he passed yet we exchanged pleasantries.
He walked on passed me quite a ways to some rocks with white crosses and a shrine. He knelt at the shrine. Embarrassed at my thoughts when looking for the rock I went into my camper. He remained at the shrine for some time before returning past me. Still feeling embarrassed I remained inside my camper as he passed. Latter two vehicles drove passed me to the shrine.
So I worried about camping alone on a dangerous beach in Mexico.
But I actually camped alone on a blessed beach in Mexico.
