Sorry no one told you after 16 years that on GM trucks of that vintage, you just apply the parking break one click and it kills the day time running lights. Not enough to engage the parking break but the dash indicator light will go out indicating the day time running lights are off. Hans
My Suburban has a "dome override" switch on the dash that turns off all the inside dome lights when the door is open.
If you press it on/off 4 times in a row it disables the automatic headlights and the DRLs until the next ignition cycle. Check your owner's manual. Allows you to use just parking lights or be completely dark...I prefer to have the parking lights on at night so I can see the dash gauges.
