Camping overnight at Cabela's

There is one in Mitchell SD that has a designated RV parking area. You are invited to stay there. I was told they have a dump but I have not found it. Another in Rapid City (actually just east of the city near the Flying J) that does indeed have a dump. Parking lot is not as big as Mitchell, but you are invited to stay there as well

First I've ever heard that. Is there any state that is totally sales tax exempt? I am sales tax exempt in Oklahoma due to being a 100% disabled vet; however, don't think other states recognize that status. Don't know for sure - never asked.

We stayed at the Cabelas "world" headquarters in Sidney, NE several years ago where they had a pay campground. Cost I believe then was $23 per nite if you had a Cabelas credit card. The year we stayed there a tornado passed thru, this was July of 2009 I think. Now you might have been able to dry camp in the parking lot, but we had truck transmission troubles and stayed for several days at the CG. Nice place.

I was told by an asst. manager at my local Walmart that if you ask to stay overnight they are required to say no, for insurance reasons. She said if you want to stay overnight at a Walmart, don't ask, then if something happens you can't say you had permission to stay there.

Surely "the local cop, with nothing to do in the middle of the night, decides to harrass you..." this can't be true :)
A previous thread by a "cop" about the near constant threat of thievery in campgrounds established all cops have a heart of gold and are as pure as the driven snow.
And if you disagree one of them will investigate you and your personal history to see why.

We have found that many Walmarts, Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountains, do not care if you stay in their lots...However local ordinances prohibit this. Many in the stores either don't know or don' t care. The issue that arises is when the local cop, with nothing to do in the middle of the night, decides to harrass you. At that point, there isn't anyone in the store to verify your permission, while the cop is pointing to the sign.

We've stayed at several Cabela's overnight throughout the country. As with any place (Cabela's, Walmart, Cracker Barrel etc...) we always go inside and ask management if it is ok, and they usually direct us as to were they want us to park overnight. We've stayed at the Cabela's in Ft Worth several times in our travels without a problem and they do have a dump station on site.

The Fort Worth Cabelas has an overnight area specifically for RV's and trucks.

They also have a kennel area. I don't know about a dump station.

If you saw a sign that said no overnight parking, then it was probably simply telling you that section of the parking lot didn't allow overnight parking. The RV/Truck area is on the far north side of the parking lot.
