- love2rvcampExplorerNot so much a pet peeve after I understood the situation. We were camping and sitting out under our awning. Our kids were younger and out on their bikes. So here we sit and this boy who was around 10 years old walked up to our site which we thought he was going to walk through our site but no he proceeded to walk up to our door and open it to go inside our TT. :? When I stopped him and ask what he was doing, was he lost?? He told us that his mom said if he needed anything to stop at a campsite and they would help so he told us he was thirsty and was going to get something to drink. We went to find his parents and let them know, for one I was concerned about a child going into another persons camper. Mom informed us he had a condition (dont remember) that caused him to get lost and confused with surroundings so he was instructed to go to a camper and ask for help. She apologized and said they needed to "fine" tune the instructions. No harm done but like I said when it first happened I was like "What the heck!!!!"

Cigarette smoke is a biggie for us....
From an Asthmatic... Not that it's a pet peeve but I'm exactly the opposite, can't stand smokey fires, mine included if it fits the bill. However I'm camping as are the rest of the folks so it's just something I have to live with so I go inside. Bought a gas fire pit that works pretty well although I've only used it one weekend so far. For some reason a cigarette from the next site doesn't seem to bother me, don't even know if I've ever noticed such.

My pet peeve was my wife (last week) ...dang her...this past week about a dozen females was having a birthday party in the site next to us and when it was time to build their campfire, they fanned out to gather wood & bout 6 of em come right thru our site headed to the forest for wood. I offered to help em but DW put the kibosh on me lending them any help. Darn her, I just had to sit helplessly & watch...:B
That's so funny! Reminds me of my father....social and willing to help anyone...especially the ladies. He loves meeting people. His Wife? SOCIAL SKILLS OF A ROCK, and hated when he even talked to other people. Very needy, and made his RV-ing experience a nightmare. He sold his rig because she took the joy out of it...LOL Should have thrown her in as part of the deal. - KampingKrisExplorerAnything can be solved by someone just coming over and asking nicely.
We accidently cut through a neighbor's corner because we had friends a site over. When he pointed it out, we didn't do it again. Unfortunately, he was rude about it.
We've put out our campfires before when asked by the neighbors. But when they in turn light up a cigarette next to our rig... really?
Alot of this is just common sense - which unfortunately not everyone seems to have... - miloExplorer IIMy pet peeve was my wife (last week) ...dang her...this past week about a dozen females was having a birthday party in the site next to us and when it was time to build their campfire, they fanned out to gather wood & bout 6 of em come right thru our site headed to the forest for wood. Those who disrespectfully dismiss others pet peeves are probably the source of them.
Sums it up nicely.
X2!
Cigarette smoke is a biggie for us. For some it is like marking their territory. It comes from inside another person's body. It's offensive and causes me a headache and sinus issues. Campfire smoke isn't a problem mostly (except for the low smolder that I think bothers most others, too), but there is something quite different about cigarettes.
We have a HTT and like to keep our windows open. If we are outside, it's disturbing. If we smell it inside our own RV...inexcusable.
If you want to smoke, it's your choice. But remember, most people do not enjoy sharing it with you. Just because they may tolerate it doesn't mean they enjoy it.
Remember, if you are smoking, it is YOUR responsibility to consider where your smoke is going. I wouldn't park my big diesel rig in front of your site with the tailpipe pointing right at you and idle it for hours, stinking up you and your rig. That would be rude.
So smokers...be kind. Keep it down wind and try to keep it to a minimum when around others. It really is appreciated!
Disclaimer: This is not an "Anti-smoking post," rather please respect others and consider how your actions can affect others.
For the record, I am not a smoker. But, how is it the smoker's resposibility to consider where the smoke is going? One cannot control the breeze. If he or she are on their site, and the CG allows smoking, there is no issue other than that of your personal bias.
In this day and age, everyone seemingly wants to blame any discomfort they encounter on someone else. If the other campers are following all posted rules and are on their site when smoking, it then becomes your personal resposibility to protect yourselves.
If ciggy smoke makes you as sick as you say (yet somwehow campfire smoke does not), it is your personal responsibility to protect yourself. There are plenty of smoke-free CG out there.
Personally, I think smoking is just nasty. But until it is illegal, (or against CG regulations) the smoker has every right to smoke on their site. - bigdad1ExplorerPet Peeve - Not being able to go R.V.ing as much as I want

As for people walking though your camp site, this happens to us at least once on almost every trip. I usually ask if they lost something.
Scott,
Do you guys camp mostly at state parks, forest service, national parks, RV parks, boondock, here in WA?
I ask because my wife and I have been camping in WA for a good number of years now and have only experienced the walk-thru one time. Very occasionally there is the barking dogs, door slamming, yelling etc but thankfully we have not really had any issues with walk-thru's. I don't blame you for engaging them as that kind of behavior wouldn't set well with me either.
We camp almost exclusively at state CG's so that's probably part of the problem. Last week it was Wenatchee Confluence and somebody walked right past our window as we were eating breakfast. It wasn't even on the way to anyplace so I don't know what they were thinking!
That's maddening. It seems to me that this kind of behavior can only be a result of being raised in a home where overall common courtesy and respect for other peoples space was not part of their learned behaviors when growing up. - dieharderExplorerOnly one thing really annoys me... those that have no idea how much the smell of weed can permeate throughout a campground. I've never had the unfortunate opportunity to camp beside someone who partakes, but I've been where I have been hundreds of feet from where someone was, and they were surprised that people around them were complaining about it. It's not like cigarette smoke that dissipates in the air within a few feet, this stuff can be smelled a long way away.
