My brother - thirteen years my senior - took me camping when I was about 10 or 11 on a section of the Appalachian Trail. Took a Greyhound from Philly to the Delaware Water Gap and hiked up to Catfish pond on the New Jersey side.
After that, it wasn't until I was married with 2 little girls that we wanted to go to a music festival. So we bought a eight person tent (three "rooms"!) and did lots of reading and preparing for that music festival. Darn near rained every day we were there. Even had a friend's daughter move into one of the "rooms" because all she had was one of those squat little high mountaineering tents she borrowed just to go for the long weekend. We all still had gobs of fun in that old tent.
Since we were now tent owners, we decided to get some use out of it and did a few years of camping one or two times a year at state parks or Knoebel's Amusement Park. Meanwhile I was reading "Tioga and George's" adventures when he was writing and travelling every day. Once I had a better paying job (after night school) saved a bit, borrowed a bit, we bought RoadAbode. Besides marrying my wife - best decision I've ever made! Having lot's of fun about 9 months out of every year - for the past 10 years with family and friends.
