Some acquaintances decided they wanted a 5th wheel trailer when they retired and do some camping... they had a Tundra and went shopping. The RV salesman set them up with a really nice 5'er and they were in love with the camping.
Fast forward to a few years ahead... we saw them at full hookup state park, everyone was impressed with their large trailer. A few months later we saw them again at NPS campground and was wondering about how much they camped.. turns out they were only going out to the family reunions (1-2 times per year), they were scared to tow it was so unstable. I watched them pull into dump station, not a pretty site (in fairness, it was not a straight shot, required turning and not dragging trailer over curb..). Dump station has nothing to do with towing, but you could see the discomfort the guy had with the trailer.
My wife had a private conversation with wife and they simply did not have enough truck. She encouraged them not to give up on camping, they ended up trading up to Ram 2500 and love camping now, they have been on month long trips and wondered why they didn't question the RV salesman more...
Buyer beware, know your specs and make informed decisions.
