canyon de chelly campground

We stayed there this weekend. $14 a night. No trouble getting a spot, though an Airstream caravan came in on our second day and may have filled the place up. Beautiful tall trees, but we chose a place in full sun, as the morning temps were below 40. Quite a few back-in spots suitable for large rigs. Clean restrooms, but no showers.

We've stayed a couple times there before when it was no charge, some nice big trees and soem pull ins. Not much else close to choose from. Few stray dogs running around so if you have a small dog you might want to watch it.

we were just there last week for 3 nights. The rate is $14 a night. but there are no hookups. there is a dump station though and you can take on water. The CG is very nice and convenient to the visitor center where you meet for the native led tours, and the rim drives. We passed the other CG on one of the rim drives and it looks like a dump. I wouldn't recommend it. It's also 9 miles inside the park.

Stayed there 3 years ago. Nice enough but no electric if I remember. Water scattered throughout park and a dump site. Nice for a day or so. Long enough to go on the guided tours.

We've stayed at Cottonwood also and it's perfect for touring the canyon. However, depending when you're going you might check to see if the water and dump station will be open if you need it. When the national park ran it they turned it off in winter. It does get cold there. The other campground mentioned, Spider Rock isn't very good, at least not a few years ago - very uneven sites. Have a great trip. It's a very special place.

Open starting the end of oct, and close the others. Also they only take cash..

We have camped at Cottonwood twice and found it to be very nice. I envy you being close enough to go this time of years.

To the best of my knowledge there is no Cottonwood Campgrond near the town of Cottonwood.
Canyon De Chelle, Cottonwood Campground, is just outside of Chinle Az. about 280 miles northeast of Cottonwood Az.

Any way the train ride was good and a future trip to Canyon de Chelly is in the works.

If you can find out if the CG is open all winter that would be a help

The Cottonwood campground is open year round. Last summer the fee was still $10.00 per night and there are 94 camp sites, first come first served.
