Careful all... tailgate thieves are out and about

I was surprised that people steal hitch receiver stuff, but that happens as well. The solution is easy... The company that makes the automotive locks for Ford, GM, etc., formerly Briggs & Stratton, now Strattec has a subsidiary called Bolt Lock. They sell hitch pin locks that key to the vehicle's door/ignition key, so you don't have to worry about an additional item to carry around.
