- dkreuzenExplorerFor the last 12 years my flat bed trailer (225/75R15 E) I have averaged about 18 months before I had a tire failure or saw one coming. Stored outside and covered. Had Tow Master tires and after many sets (covered under the extra cost warranty) I switched to the new Carlisle RH tires 2 years ago and they still look perfect. I have a boat trailer that I got new in 2001 that had the old Carlisle tires and in less that 2 years they split apart sitting in the garage. So I have had both the old and new Carlisle styles and the new style is defiantly better. The new style came out in late 2011 and are labeled "RADIAL TRAIL RH with DuraTrail technology".

After 1 year this is what happened to my Carlise tires. I refused to put more on my trailer.
These are the "old style" tires which are by the pics very near to their "end of service" life. I have replaced tires before they has this little tread. - CKNSLSExplorerMost Carlisle complaints are from several years ago before they had the nylon cap overlay. While heavy trailers are problematic WITH ANY ST tire brand I would not hesitate to use the Carlisle Radial Trail RH on trailers under 10,000 pounds.
As I mentioned-the bad reputation is gained FROM THE OLD DESIGN! - C_SchomerExplorerMy 5er came with them and the first owner had one fly apart and he put the same ones on again... go figure. The next set lasted 4 years and the sides cracked but at least they rolled straight with no humps or bumps anywhere on them. That's a bunch better than any towmasters I've had. I just put on Cooper HT3s and took the first trip. Time will tell but I feel much more confident with the LTs. Craig
- azdryheatExplorerI wouldn't give Carlisle or any other Chinese-made ST tire a chance to blow up on my trailer. It's LT's for me and nothing else.

Are these tires really as bad as I hear they are ??
They have a very well proven record when we do a google. A google gives us input from many different types of trailersing forums from serious commercial type trailering forums on down to little used boat or RV trailering forums. And it ain't pretty.
A search on NHTSA tire complaints website shows us all sizes have complaints.
And yes I'm a Carlisle tire victim on 14" and 15" size wheels (several times) on different trailers used in my business.
Now having said all that the new Carlisle RH looks more like a LT tire than its rounded profile older brothers. Only time (several years) will give us a good indicator of how well Carlisle has done their home work.
I hope its a winner. - ScottGNomad5 out of 5 failed on my TT. Never abused in any way and always inflated to 65 psi. 1 was never even mounted, just had a tread separation laying inside the canopy of my truck.
Installed 5 new Maxxiss tires and never had another issue.
Believe what you want but the bad rep is well deserved. - dodge_guyExplorer III replaced the cheapo Chinese tires on my trailer after 2 years and 1200 miles (had 2 tires with shifted belts), with a set of Carlisles. I don`t have 1 complaint about them. In my research the failures seem to be associated with the load range "C" tires. I`m running load range "E"`s (ST225/75/15) and am very happy with them. the first set took me 5 years and approx. 12k miles. with many 65+mph hwy trips in the July heat. Smoky`s, Disney World (separate trips), Northern WI, Mackinaw MI, Niagara Falls, and many other 3-5 hour trips! The replacements were just installed this year and made it to Myrtle Beach and back without issue! when the time comes if we still have the trailer I will replace them with another set of Carlisles.
- powderman426ExplorerFrom my experience and not opinion, they are lousy tires. I bought four and two of them didn't make a year. Got rid of them and went with Maxxis 8008's and all seems good. Of course i also stopped driving fast and with them underinflated as some would have you believe. Lol
