Carport Cover for RV

We decided to have a metal open sided carport type of cover built for our TT on the
side of the house. It will be built over grass. I would like to know what type of material
would be the best option for the benefit of the tires ? Gravel, treated wood of some
type,etc ????

  • Have a similar cover for our boat and just put down a bed of gravel.
  • The cheapest would be to put in a good gravel base. Add more gravel when you need to and keep it leveled. The tires will put ruts in it that you will want to level out. Concrete is the best long term solution but is the costliest. If you use gravel, I would put pads under the tires to distribute the weight.

The other issue is the open sides. You really should close in the south side at a minimum. Otherwise, you will see a lot of sun damage. The best is to close in three sides with the open side facing north.
  • I am also interested in this question. Trying to figure out which one to purchase and what to put on the ground.
  • Probley goes without saying but it never stopped me before. Be sure wheel pads are level to each other. Time well spent. We did asphalt under our metal canopy sloping slightly away from the house and used shingles to level. They never move. Best of luck
  • Dig out a few inches. Put road gravel down for a base. Than 1/4 inch cursed limestone.this will pack down like concrete. Will let water drain off.

Use 4 inch metal post.close enough in case you want to enclose at a later date.
    Trust roof.

Had one up in WI. Long time ago.
  • I would pour a small slab of cement for each tire. Like a large stepping stone>
