Catalytic Converter

Not sure where to post this, but here it goes. Just got my Motorhome back from a visit to Midas today. About two weeks ago I went to the storage lot where it was normally parked, since moved facilities, to find that someone took a saw to my exhaust system and stole the Catalytic Converter from it. Seems that in Houston, crooks have figured out that delivery trucks and RVs are an easy target. Fortunately, my insurance company paid the 3k to get it replaced. Just some caution... Catalytic Converters are apparently a high ticket item because of the metals used in them. Guy at Midas said that they've been seeing a lot of personal pickups, RVs and even a dealership had 10 trucks this month getting the converters taken. Just wanted to make you guys aware to keep a look out if you have a motorhome or truck... It almost reminds me of the thefts of AC units for the copper. Luckily, everything is up and going again just in time for my birthday weekend! YAY.

  • I wish they'd steal the one out of my Harley, I wouldn't want it back. lol
  • There was a rash of converter thefts from cars parked in the commuter lots around train stations in the Chicago 'burbs last summer. This was in broad daylight. Pretty easy to do with a Sawzall.

Not much you can do to protect yourself when they are being stolen from "safe" lots in upscale suburbs during the day!
  • People can be pigs (no offense to swines!). At least the insurance company straightened it out for you before your camping trip! Have fun!
