I have never seen a CB hand held that was really worth having. The best that can be said is, it is better than nothing. That is also, IMO, the best that can be said about FRS radios For best safety performance, get a good Cobra radio from a truck stop, then get the best antenna you can find (probably at the same truck stop). Connect the radio power leads directly to the battery of the vehicle, mount the radio securely, and tune the antenna to 1.5:1 SWR. Don't worry about getting it lower than that, it can be done, but there is no gain in performance involved.
Channel 9 is the FCC designated Emergency Channel. Channel 19 is the channel for mobile use in many areas of the country, but it has no official designation.
I have Maxon radios, with the built in Weather channels. I need to get busy and get one mounted in the motorhome, and one in the Jeep.
