Costco had a nice LED 120 volt fixture this week. $40 Canadian, 1800 lumens, 29 watts, round white glass fixture. Nearly twice the light for a lower price than one I bought at Home Depot a couple of months ago. It says "immortal light - 25000 hours" on the box. At last I am seeing good LED alternatives to fluorescent lights in local stores. The LEDs can't seem to compete on efficiency: a single T8 tube is 2850 lumens for 32 watts. Of course half of the light is radiated upward and much of that is wasted. It looks to me like LEDs will make fluorescent tubes obsolete because the fluorescent fixtures have poor contacts and tubes burn out too quickly and are an environmental nuisance.
