I have been helping my mom make all sorts of decisions on things to get her hose ready for sale. The last 2 years my dad's health got worse and worse, and she had no time to spend on maintenance and upkeep other than very basics. This past year has really helped solidify my decision to sell my house, RV full-time for a few years, and settle in an apt when I can't travel safely any longer.
I know some think I should prepare to purchase a house or condo to reinvest from selling current house, but I can't see burdening my children with having to try to sell a house or condo when I am gone. I will rent somewhere so that I don't have financial responsibility of maintenance. I have watched a friend struggle to sell her mom's house... she has spent two years working on the house to get it ready to sale and now waiting on it to sell. her BIL pushes her to do things his way (her sister has Alzheimer's and is beyond input) but expects her to sell it immediately for the greatest amount possible, to help with sister's medical bills. It has just about stressed her completely out.
