Checking out used motorhome

I am going to look at a 1999 32 foot Palm Breeze that has a salvage title so I will be checking it out top to bottom. Can anyone tell me if the walls frames are made with metal studs or wood? The rig has a slideout is there anything in particular I should be looking for other than water leaks and if it move smooth and sag?
  • Here's the definition by insurance companies, meaning that it may have value by parting it out. Very often, they've been in a flood. It may also have several small round marks on it from being touched with a ten foot pole. :)
  • Picked up the motorhome today it was in Modesto CA and I live in Twain Harte CA. My home is in the mountains about 16 miles do north from Yosemite at 4300ft above sea level and Modesto is at 250ft so driving the rig home gives it a good workout. It handled it great at one point the road climes a little over 1000ft in 3 miles and the motor only moved the needle on the temp gauge maybe 20 degrees if that and it was a hot day. Drives like new handles the road great and very comfortable. I have a few little things to do like replace one headlight and one marking light lens. The heater cable needs to be fixed and a small exhaust leak but other than that it's pretty much like new. With only 28,800 miles and 220 hours on the gen for $13,000 I can't complain mush. I am very happy with it.
  • I passed on the 1999 they said they didn't know why it has a salvage title but when I saw it I could see that it had be in a flood. So a looked around and found a 1997 41K miles slideout 35 ft. For $13,800 but needed a generator, radio and microwave. Someone beat me to it so I looked some more and found 1997 32ft. one slider new tires 28K miles satellite antenna V10 engine, clean inside and out everything works good for $13,000.
  • Do NOT ever buy any vehicle with a salvage title. I could tell you horror stories that would tie up your thread for pages. :E
  • Why was it made a salvage unit if because of flood damage I'd stay away, water and wiring don't play well together and years later is when you find out.
  • Here's one I found for comparison- Hope it's not the one you're looking at. If it is, I saved you a trip.
