My recollection from reading about this subject was that people bought the the vehicle, set it up to tow, and damaged the tranny. Reportedly GM actually replaced some of the vehicles with the same vehicle with a standard tranny and others with a different GM vehicle. Based
So based on failures the ability to tow the car was changed. Don't believe any are tolerable without damage. I would not try it.
