I'll get slammed for this, but I think it's a socialization issue. In the 60's to probably the late 80's, you rarely saw a dog in a campground. People came out of their RV's and socialized. Then the dogs started to appear and the people disappeared. They only came out when the dogs needed to go.
I think people turned to pets versus socializing with other people which is sad. Then the pets became their kids and soon they were showing up in stores and restaurants, in shopping carts and sitting at the table.
I know many with pets will deny this happening, so it must be all the others that don't RV that don't understand how disgusting it is to put a dog into a shopping cart where people put their food or into a restaurant where people are eating.
Before you flame on me, I had a dog for over 55 years and two labs, one pet and one working dog, up until five years ago. The difference was, I knew that my dogs didn't belong in restaurants or stores and not everyone loved my dogs.
