At the Atlanta RV show this spring, I had a conversation with both a Keystone and Forest River rep concerning tires, and they both told me the same thing. Both said that they couldn't get a tire manufacturer(GoodYear, Michelin etc.) to guarantee them a certain number of tires each year due to the number of rigs they build. They stated that they wanted an OEM name brand tire, but that couldn't be done due to no tire company wanting to commit to that large number of tires. I still think that may be a load of crap, but they will charge you an upgrade fee and put on whatever tire you want if you order it that way. I call BS. I still think they buy what covers the weight at the cheapest price, which we all know what type tires those are.
Your *last sentence* is correct!.:)
When I was upgrading to Michelin XPS Ribs, I had a lengthy chat with a Jayco Tech rep a few years ago regarding the ST GY "balloons" it came equipped with.
He admitted *exactly* what you state (the req's are put out to bid).
