Interesting read.
I'm sure that trailer tires live a tough tough life and that LT tires blow on occasion and tear up wheel wells when they do.
Some folks abuse tires, some folks do not abuse tires, but you often don't know when you run over something too. I've certainly had my cases of flats on my "cars" and did blow a 10-year old Marathon on the TT (that one's clearly on me).
Conversely, we aren't conspiracy nuts if we suspect that trailer tires aren't junkier.
The interesting thing missing from this thread is the old adage that ST tires were supposed to have special sidewall and bead properties to deal with instances of tight turns where the tires experience "twisting side loads"...it used to be said that you could pull a LT tire off it's bead, but the ST would "stay mounted" in a sharp turn. (Don't know how true that is- but it used to be mentioned on these tire threads)
I guess what's sad is that I just bought new Marathon ST's...after reading this thread, I sorta wish I'd gotten some sort of LT type...I think I'm finally convinced that the LT tires, in general, are junkier and riskier (not that LT's are miraculous)
