Chinese RV tires... holding up!

Almost all RV tires are Asian sourced, so its not much of a choice really. Goodyear has their American made ST tire though.

I haven't had any issues with my last 10 China specials. I even got many years out of the tire wheel combos I bought at Tractor Supply on my Haulmark enclosed. TowKing brand in 15". I also bought Towmax tires with good results surprisingly, I didn't have a choice due to the small size of the utility trailer... 14" suckers.

My Mastertrack UN203 ST225/75R15's are holding up good on my 30' 5th wheel toy hauler, the air pressure has held steady for months actually. They are wearing really good, no issues at year three.

I've had others fail in less than two years! TrailStars in 16" were terrible years ago, never tried them again. For a while I was only getting 3 years tops out of ST tires, I think the quality has improved.

At least with the Mastertrack Chinese made tires. I'm not getting the weather cracking and tread cracks at all on the last two sets of Chinese tires. I have one set of Taiwan made Linglongs over 4 years old and they have zero cracks so far after thousands of miles.

Agree @Sagebrush -- seems these Chinese tires are getting better lately as I'm reading it's reviews.

The key perhaps is to check it more often as some are still bad.

I've had US and Chinese made Marathons and Chinese Carlisles. Both my 5ths had 235-16E tires and GVWR's of just over 10K and 12K. I ran them at max sidewall pressure, didn't cruise above 65 MPH and changed them at 7 years. Never had a problem with any of them.

I have a lot more confidence in US or Japanese branded tires even if marked Made in China as I'm pretty sure it was made under our standards and strict supervision.

I think the China-made tires are lightyears ahead in quality from the ones sourced a decade ago. There were some very shoddy tires coming on trailers as OEM in the early 2010's.

Thanks fj12ryder! That's one less thing to worry for me as my RV goes through some less-than-well-maintained road and byways.

Although I makes an eyeball check in every other destination, I worry about possible internal damage that may blow the tire up especially on those twisty road we don't have to pass to get to our mountain sites.

I think it's mostly hype. We've got 50,000 miles towing over the last 10yrs and only had one tire failure but I don't blame the tire, the leaf spring broke and dug into the side of the tire.

Likewise, usually buy off brand tires for the truck. Typically get 50,000miles or more out of a set. Never had a blow out for that either.

"Branded tires".

The (mainland) Chinese are very capable of manufacturing tires to the buyers specifications!

Michelin has mfg facilities in China along with other brands who put their BRAND NAME on the tires.

However - even YOU can be a distributor of YOUR brand of tires mfg in China to YOUR specs.

Simplified:
YOU place the minimum order for "Yosemite" Tires, have them shipped to the USA, line up distributors and you're good to go.

Also,cut a deal with trailer manufactures to equip their product with Yosemite tires - which meet the desired load range for the trailer.
(Think "Bean Counters"!)

Soooo maybe lots of complaints and tire failures! Next batch gets a new brand name. If folks are happy with their "Yosemites", they get good reviews (like in this thread).

When a company has THEIR name on the tire - their expectations (and specs) are higher....Ex: Michelin.

Unfortunately - sometimes even USA mfg tires can be losers! Ex: USA mfg Goodyear Marathons from a few years ago. The Airstream forums have (negative) threads that never stopped - but would be deleted or closed on other forums. If you bought a new trlr a few years ago, it had USA mfg GY Marathons (with lots of unhappy folks on RV Net also).

My Marathons developed bubbles & tread seperation in the first year, with a mimimal load range (D) for a 10K (unloaded) trlr.
