It's a nasty job...
I use:
>a de-greaser like Awesome, Simple Green, whatever I have on hand.
>a putty knife to scrape the heavy stuff out with
>a wire brush
>rags and paper towels
Rinse the whole thing with a low press spray from the hose.
Light it and let it heat up and dry.
A little water does get in the burner tubes, but it cooks itself out after I light the grill.
