We've had our Baby Q since 1998 I have always preheated the grill for 5 minutes then wire brushed it. Once a year I will scrape out the inside and wire brush it to so degree. First the grill is cast iron and like the old cast frying pans they are enhanced by use so do not use cleaners after they have been seasoned. The burner gets a once a year cleaning by using small drill to remove grease or sludge on them. The bottom is just scrapped out. That's it!
I use my Baby Q for about 7 months of the year, not every day but very, very often. What a great grill. To clean it any more then I do is to ruin its flavor and the fact it is a grill !!!!.
That's a good point on the grill grate. I neglected to mention that although I clean the inside and the burner with a power washer (water only), I NEVER do anything to the grill grate except scrape the stuff off the top and bottom once in a while. As an enthusiast of cooking on cast iron in other applications, I think that is what I like so much about the Qs. Cheers!
