I changed from TT to FW two years ago. I struggled too and wondered if it was worth it. Trial and error educated me and now I'm a happy camper again. I'll never go back to a TT.
Backing can be challenge. Go slow & make small adjustments. Turn your wheel a little while moving back, straighten the wheel while backing slowly and see where it's going. Adjust as needed and repeat.
As far as the hitch, once I have the FW in it's spot I put the trans in neutral to allow it to remove any hitch tension before I put it in park. I place the tire chocks before I disconnect. I will raise the FW up some to remove some weight off the hitch before I pull the handle but don't go too high. To find that spot on yours raise it a little and see if you can pull it. If not raise it a little more. I have done this enough now to know where that spot is on mine.
Once I have the handle pulled I will raise it up enough to pull the TV out. My RV salesmen said raise it until I see a little gap between the two hitch plates. That is too high for mine and makes it difficult to impossible to pull the handle and separate.
After two years of practice and observation I can hitch, unhitch and back in with little effort. It is so much better than a TT now, especially not dealing with tension bars and sway bars. Never again.
Hope this helps
