It may depend on where you like to travel. Some states have laws that no pets are allowed in the motel rooms (except for service dogs). They always have kennels available outside but many people will not put their pets in the outdoor kennels. You should check laws in the states where you plan/want to travel. I'll admit I have stayed in motels where I have illegally kept my dog in the room but it was just overnight. If I were staying a week that would have been a problem.
