Controlling odors in an RV

No pets & non smokers but almost every meal than cannot be cooked on the grill so that means stuff like bacon regularly & we are multi month travelers.

Can't say that I have noticed any odor. The DW runs a clean ship. She always has flowers on the counter. Whenever possible the windows are opened, & there are plenty to be opened.

Every couple months it gets a thorough cleaning which includes oiling of all of the woodwork.

Put roof vent covers on. And if you have two roof vents install a vent cover with a fan in it.

I turn on the front vent fan and open the back vent and in minutes it sucks out all the air in the MH and replaces it with fresh air. :W



I use this one because the fan is 'outside' the RV so you don't hear it.
I wouldn't have an RV without vent covers and one roof vent fan.

We Cook, but no smoking and pets. The Fans are on when cooking to remove the odors. Whenever the RV sets the Fans vents are open, but the fan is not on.

I don't smoke, have pets, or cook in here (except for microwave), and to be honest there's not really an odor problem I've noticed yet. I'm mostly trying to make sure I don't wake up one morning and go "what happened in here?"

Yeah, during the summer here in Texas if the dehumidifier is off, the humidity in the RV will normally creep up to 75-80%, and everything starts feeling kind of sticky inside, especially clothes and sheets. So keeping the RH at 50% really makes a difference. I normally end up dumping out about 2 quarts of of water a day!

During the winter, the inside RH normally fluctuates between 40 and 60%, so no problems there.

Great ideas. I'll start off by at least using the windows and vents on nice days, something I haven't really bothered doing. I'll also look into the ozone generator.. it sounds interesting though I'm a little wary of the health risks.

A dehumidifier does wonders, especially in Texas. Barring that, tubs of Damp Rid in a closed rig... but the calcium chloride is very caustic, so I put the tub into a 5 gallon bucket, as a leak without it can be difficult to clean up... and with how hot a rig in the Texas sun gets, plastic can split.

Make sure there is water in all the traps and use homemade #2 spray

Our MH is 8 years old. Last 4 1/2 we've lived in it 100-120 days. We cook in it and all of the things previously mentioned. We run the Fantastic Fan almost continuously and always try to keep a couple of windows slightly open except in the coldest weather.

We also travel with four cats and three dogs. So, our odor load is significant. Last month we had someone in our MH replacing the blinds and she commented on how some RVs smell of animals and ours didn't. We aren't clean freaks.

I notice that you live in East Texas. Humidity might be a contributing factor. We are out west were the humidity is very low. I would think that humidity could hold in odors.

I bought the TT so I could cook in it, though I do cook outdoors just as often. I do let it air out.. In good-ish weather, I leave the windows open for a few days. Never really had cooking smell issues.

We aren't smokers so that's not a problem. Every RV we've been in that had bad odors was because of cooking. We had a tent and owned a pop-up for many years so were already in the habit of cooking outdoors. The only "cooking" we do inside is nuking stuff. We clean thoroughly before and after each trip, and open the windows whenever possible. We park it next to our house so opening windows and keeping it clean is fairly easy.

We had our last trailer for 10 years and had no bad odors in it. The dealer even made a comment to us on how clean it was.
