I'v e done it. Just unscrew the regulator and use a couple of brass fitting to connect the male end of a quick disconnect fitting. Then use an extension hose to connect to the trailer.
I have three 10' and one five foot hose.
When you unscrew the original regulator, you end up with a 1/8" male NPT sticking out.
I used a brass quick disconnect fitting like the one below except I drilled it out and re-tapped the end for 1/8" NPT female (becasue I was too cheap to buy the right fitting).

Rather than have to tap, you can easily get a single brass fitting to connect the grill's fitting to the quick disconnect. It would need to be 1/8" NPT female on one end and 1/4" NPT female on the other. Here is one on Amazon: link but any H/W store would have one at a fraction of that cost.
I ended up with this:

I've done the same mod on my fire pit and camp stove.
It is wonderfully convenient!
Note: all propane appliances/accessories run off the same "pressure" propane so this works perfectly.
