Well ... last fall the DW and myself both got our recommended old-geezers strong flu shots ... along with our pneumonia shots.
We then RV drycamped in Arizona in January for the gem and mineral show and then traveled into Northern Arizona for some RV sightseeing and further camping. We were in our small Class C and were traveling along with another couple in their small Class C.
All four of us started getting sick while traveling in our RVs in Arizona. We had to cut our trips short and return to CA - with the drivers being sick while driving. The DW and myself even spent one night on the way home in an Arizona campground we selected close to a hospital just in case we got really sick before making it back home.
The wife and myself were really miserable when we arrived home sick ... apparently from a strange ("novel"?) flu that was not accounted far in our flu shots. The DW was very aggressively treated by her allergist doctor to try and keep her out of the hospital (she did not have to go to a hospital). We had to even buy a special breathing machine for her to use in the home.
It took at least two weeks for us to feel halfway decent again ... and our RV'ing friends are still not entirely over it. That was the worst bout of flu we've ever went through, and of course we don't want to go through anything like it again. However, we DID get through it and didn't die (yet) from it. Supposedly what we had was merely some form of good old fashioned flu.
Other than dying from it, I can't imagine this virus being much worse to survive than what we just went through. Probably what we're all concerned with is a general population being exposed to a "flu type" virus without none having been protected from it by effective flu shots so as to reduce the spreading and general misery.
