For me, Myrtle Beach is 1200 miles away. At 400 miles per day it would be 6 longgggg hard days driving there and back. My vacation hours from work has value. I'm not going to blow 6 or 7 days vacation driving and be mentally/physically exhausted when I get there.
I'll fly, get that beach front condo for 3 nights and call it even. I just turned a 10 day vacation to 4 day's, banked 6 days of vacation time for the next trip and eliminated 6 days of "gee, this suxs". I don't find driving for 6 or 7 days just to get somewhere as "being on vacation".
2each their own.
To whomever said "I can park where ever I want and move on if I don't like it". See if you can camp on Times Square, Lake Shore Drive, South Beach or downtown Chicago.
On Edit: For example, DW and I have arrangements to spend 3 nights in Cozumel starting Feb 2. We leave on Thur and will be home in time to catch the Super Bowl. The total cost for airfare and beach front condo is ~$1800. How long would it take me to tow my camper to Quintana Roo? Should I not go because I want to sleep in my own bed? I paid for this camper so I have to use it on every vacation? I have learned that sometimes it's better to leave the camper at home and enjoy your vacation. Everything has value. Time has value, convenience has value. The question is what is it worth to you?
We drive to San Antonio often for the weekend. We have towed the camper and stayed at Travelers World RV Park once. I'll never do it again. It is well worth the extra cost to us to stay at a nice hotel on the river. That convenience has value to us. The time spent travelling from the park to places of interest has value to us.
